From the historic shores of Lake Beresford and Enterprise to the equestrian estates of Osteen, Gifford Fence Company has been the trusted name in Volusia County fencing for over four decades. We specialize in the unique 'River-to-Ranch' lifestyle of South West Volusia, providing the 'Gifford Standard' to homeowners from DeLand south to the Seminole County line. Whether you are looking for a luxury vinyl install in Stone Island Estates or a durable perimeter fence in The Cove at Lemon Bluff, we handle the details so you don't have to.

Serving SW Volusia Communities & Neighborhoods
We are proud to provide expert installation to the following unincorporated areas and private communities:
  • Stone Island Estates: High-end ornamental aluminum and vinyl privacy fencing tailored for riverfront living.
  • The Cove at Lemon Bluff & Pelham Square: Custom PVC and aluminum solutions that meet neighborhood aesthetic standards.
  • Enterprise & Lake Beresford: Specialty wood and vinyl options that preserve the natural beauty of these historic areas.
  • Osteen & South DeLand: Large-scale privacy, chain link, and ranch-style fencing for expansive properties west of Old Train Rd.

Volusia County Fence Codes: What You Need to Know
Volusia County has recently streamlined its regulations, but there is one critical rule every homeowner must know:
  • The 6' No-Permit Rule: In Unincorporated Volusia County, no building permit is required for residential fences 6 feet tall or less.
  • The Pool Exception: If your fence is being used as a Pool Safety Barrier, a permit is strictly required regardless of the height. We are experts in Florida Pool Code and will handle the permitting process to ensure your pool area is 100% compliant and safe.
  • The "Old Train Rd" Boundary: We specialize in the region west of Osteen and Old Train Rd, ensuring your project meets the specific setbacks and codes of the South West Volusia corridor.

Note: Even though a permit may not be required for your project, Gifford Fence Company strictly requires a property survey before installation. This is the only way to confirm the correct fence location within your property boundaries and avoid civil encroachment disputes with neighbors.

Florida Pool Safety Act: Mandatory Requirements
In Southwest Volusia County, the most important exception to the "No Permit" rule is the Pool Safety Barrier. If your new fence is intended to serve as a barrier for a swimming pool, spa, or hot tub, Volusia County and Florida State Law require a permit and strict adherence to safety codes.

Why a Permit is Mandatory for Pool Fences
While standard residential privacy fences under 6 feet are exempt from permitting, any fence used as a pool barrier must be inspected to ensure it meets the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act (Chapter 515, Florida Statutes). This is designed to prevent accidental drownings and is strictly enforced by Volusia County Building Officials.

Our Pool Safety Standards
When Gifford Fence installs a pool barrier in communities like Stone Island Estates or The Cove at Lemon Bluff, we ensure every detail meets the legal safety requirement:
  • Minimum Height: Barriers must be at least 4 feet (48 inches) tall.
  • Self-Closing & Self-Latching Gates: All gates must open outward (away from the pool) and be equipped with self-closing hinges and a self-latching device located on the pool side of the gate.
  • Picket Spacing: For vinyl, aluminum or wood picket fences, the spacing between vertical pickets must not exceed 4 inches to prevent a child from passing through.
  • Clear Zones: The "Gifford Standard" ensures no climbable structures or objects are located near the exterior of the fence that could be used to scale the barrier.

Gifford Pro Tip: If you are building a new pool, the county will not issue your final pool certificate until the permanent fence is inspected and approved. We coordinate with your pool builder to ensure your fence is installed and permitted on time.

The Gifford Difference
  • Stick-Built on the River: Our custom build-on-site method is perfect for the uneven terrain and slopes found along the St. Johns River.
  • Concrete-Set Stability: We anchor every post in concrete, an essential step for the sandy soils common in South West Volusia.
  • 45+ Years of Local Knowledge: We know the difference between an Osteen ranch and a DeLand subdivision.

Pro Tip: If you want to see if you are in unincorporated Volusia County simply visit the county property appraiser website (Click Here) and search for your address. You will see a section with "Tax District", if it says 100-Unincorporated, you are in Volusia County. Otherwise it will show your city.
